Providing disadvantaged young people with the motivation to seek employment

Program: Career Edge

Skilling Australia Foundation is one of our seven successful 2017/ 2018 Ansvar Community Education Program grant recipients. They will use the CEP grant money to recruit 30 disadvantaged, unemployed young people. The young people will undertake three weeks pre-employment training and work placement leading to a qualification in an area identified by the Federal Governments’ as an area of skills shortage in QLD. On completion of training they will be able to complete an apprenticeship with a host employer.

The funding will allow materials and administration to be compiled to recruit the 30 young people, along with covering costs of the training in partnership with RTO/TAFE.

Key Objectives:

-To recruit 30 disadvantaged young people meeting the target audience criteria
-To provide a pre-employment job readiness training and placement program
-To support program participants to gain an apprenticeship
-Successful transition into work through the provision of mentoring services
-For young people to transition into a meaningful career.

Expected outcomes from the program

The Career Edge program aims to provide disadvantaged young people with the motivation to seek employment, along with a positive attitude towards work. Through the program they will have an understanding of potential career pathways and apprenticeships. Participants will complete pre-employment training with a high percentage commencing an apprenticeship.
