2020/2021 Grant Recipients Overview

The Community Education Program provides grants to support sustainable programs for Australians under the age of 25, promoting ongoing education, skill training and programs making a significant difference to the lives of the participants. Ansvar has awarded over $250,000 to ten worthy Australian non-profit organisations. The money goes to organisations that provide education, skills training and other programs helping vulnerable youth.

The Warrior Women Foundation: The Young Warrior Women Program

The Warrior Women Foundation provides best practice evidence based support programs for vulnerable Australian women. The Young Warrior Women Program is a mentoring and pscyho-educational program based on the Self Determination Theory which is important to youths leaving care. The program is designed to reduce the stress involved in leaving care, learning to live autonomously and preparing for adulthood.

The program will assist vulnerable young women aged 15-25 who are leaving out of home care and transitioning to independent living and are at high risk homelessness. This will be conducted through staggered workshops, online presentations and digital meetings rather than face to face to be Covid safe.

BeyondDV: Hope 4 Life (H4L) Youth Program

BeyondDV empowers survivors of domestic violence to reclaim their lives and is focused on supporting them during the recovery phase, with unique initiatives that target the overall improvement in the well-being of the victims.

The program, Hope 4 Life is designed for children aged 5-17 who have been impacted by domestic violence. It includes an annual 3 day camp, quarterly Reconnect family days, monthly all day “hangouts and mentoring and weekly afterschool homework club.

Variety WA: Variety Motor Mouth Program

Variety provides practical assistant to WA kids in need through supplying equipment, programs, events and scholarships. The Variety Motor Mouth program combines intensive therapy with fun and training to children who cannot speak and use Augmentative and Alternative Communications devices (AAC).

The program will be conducted through a 3 day camp where families will receive one-on-one support from volunteer speech pathology and occupational therapy experts. Throughout the camp, there will be dedicated session with therapists for AAC users as well as practical workshops for parents and carers to char their experiences and learn more about AAC.

Foster Care Angels: A Maze In Mind

Foster Care Angels assists to remove the disadvantage and discrimination suffered by children and young people who have experienced foster care. The A Maze In Mind program is an evidence based psycho-educational program, educating and empowering young people with the tools and strategies to help them manage their mental and emotional health and wellbeing.

The program focuses on educational information about mental health issues in an interactive style. This is conducted through online workshops, private counselling via skype, email and telephone and an App that enables 24/7 access to information.

Nature Foundation: Kids on Country

Nature Foundation works with communities to develop a better understanding of nature science and empowers those communities, including aboriginal communities to take an active part in safeguarding the environment and heritage values for future generations.

The program consists of a 5-day outback ecology camp, one preparatory in-school workshops and access to online learning program, on-ground conservation, cultural and work skill activities guided by Traditional Owners.

Fight Cancer Foundation: Education Support for Kids with Cancer

Fight Cancer Foundation aims to provide practical support to families who are fighting against cancer. The program aims to safeguard young people who are affected by cancer and to level the playing field for children with cancer by removing barriers to ongoing education and making learning more flexible and accessible due to their treatments.

FCF work with specialist educators to provide students in Royal Children’s Hospital with an individual learning plan that addresses students’ educational, medical, social and emotional needs. This approach enables the student to not fall behind in school due to their illness, treatment and recovery.

The Social Studio: Youth Development Program

The Social Studio works to alleviate poverty and create systemic change for newly arrived refugees facing barriers in pursuing education and employment. They aim to promote inclusion, education and life opportunity for this vulnerable community facing disproportionate levels of social isolation.

The program is conducted over 2 full days per week, every week for 12 months. The workshops will include learning plans with tailored goal setting, work-readiness workshops, English language support and assistance sourcing work experience, internship and employment opportunities.
